It is a challenge to find suitable tyres for the Discovery 3. The TDV6 S model has 17" rims (South Africa).

The required specification per the Land Rover User's Manual:

  • 235/70 17"
  • Speed rating: H
  • Load rating: 111
  • Rim: 7J x 17

Here is a list of tyres that can be considered.

Manufacturer  Name  Size  Spd/Ld  Dia  Comments
 Coopers Discoverer ATR
 235/70 111S
29.99 Standard size, with slightly lower speed rating.
A good replacement for Discos that spend most of the time
on tarmac, with occasional offroad.
I believe that the tyre is too small for serious offroading.
 245/70 110S
 30.4
 255/70 112S 31.1
This might be a good compromise.
 265/70 115S  31.6

S/T
245/70  110S
30.43  Reports indicate that S/T prone to chipping if driven only
on gravel roads.
 LT245/70 119Q
30.45
 LT265/70 112Q
31.65
STT
LT245/70  119Q  30.7
Reports that they are noisy, but not intrusive in Disco3.
Very capable tyre!
 LT265/70 121Q
31.9 Reports that they are noisy, but not intrusive in Disco3.
Very capable tyre!
 Hercules Terratrac  A/T 265/70 115S

245/70 110S   Load rating slightly too low
Terratrac A/W
LT265/70
112S   Cheap - can afford a second set!
Might be the ideal tyre if you do lots of offroad, but do not
want to compromise to much on tarmac?
Durango M/T
265/70
112Q
31.8

Manufactured by Coopers - old STT.
Noisy on tarmac. Very capable on mud, rocks and sand.
Oversized, with minor chafing in rear wheel wells in extreme
conditions

General  Grabber AT2
265/70 115S  Expensive
